A device measuring the rate of rise of bubbles in a measurement tube is applicable to lead-acid electrolyte specific gravity measurement. It enables the introduction of air or gas bubbles of defined size into a measurement fluid and the subsequent accurate measurement of their rise speed. Gas is bubbled into the tube at an opening in its base. The rate of rise and the vertical acceleration of the bubbles are derived from the outputs of sensors placed at intervals up the tube. Each sensor produces a signal when a bubble passes it. The tube is filled with measurement fluid via a suction tube connected to the opening. The time relationships of the sensor signals are processed into density and/or viscosity values by a microcomputer.
