The production of flat strip communication cables of the type used in telephone systems is facilitated with alternate twisting of cable pairs to give improved flexibility. Cable strands (18) are fed over guide blocks (11) to two tape spinners (14, 16) that are driven through gears. The first spinner provides a rightwards action and the second a leftwards action. Guide rollers (12) are located between the two stations and are mfrd. in an elastic material. Each cable pair is twisted together by the action of the spinners. Final forming is provided by heated, rigid rollers (13) and a final flexible roller pair (19) completes the operation.
