Automatic treatment unit esp. for smoking foodstuffs - is self contained with superheated steam generator and simplified sawdust loading

A heatable water reservoir for producing steam connected by a line to a separate, heatable, steam-superheating chamber with an adjoining smoke generating chamber, are provided in an oven for treating foodstuffs and esp. for smoking meat, sausage, fish, etc. by the condensation of superheated steam charged with the constituents of smoke, on the foodstuffs. The smoke generating chamber has a sawdust loading mechanism, and a grate for supporting the sawdust, beneath which there is a closed collector for used sawdust. Steam/smoke conduits connected via valves to the steam generating chambers open into the treatment chamber forming part of the common, sealed heat-insulating housing. The unit is selfcontained, compact and well-suited for small hotels, snackbars, etc. The sawdust loading is so simplified that together with the automatic controls, the strictest requirements for the faultless treatment of the goods can be followed by inexperienced personnel.
