The wind meter has a wind diven rotor connected to a shaft whose revolution rate is proportional to wind speed. A measurement device measures a shaft revolution rate dependent parameter from which the wind energy is determined over a long duration measurement period. The measurement operation is as simple as the use of a conventional pitot tube device. The device contains several sections, each coming into operation only at defined preselected wind speeds so as to measure parameters corresponding to these speeds. Each measurement section may be a wind path meter measuring distances covered by the wind at each speed or clocks measuring the times during which defined wind speeds are achieved or exceeded. The measurement results are processed into energy values by a computer.
