The relay, which may be pulse operated, or by d.c., has a coil (2) enclosing an armature (3) in line with its central axis. One end of the armature is connected to the centre of a leaf spring, so that it can only move between two end positions determined by the spring. Mounted at the other end of the armature is a bridging member for a pair of contacts (4) opened and closed in those two end positions. In an alternative design, two leaf springs are used so that the armature can move between four positions to operate four sets of contacts. The armature can be of soft iron. Excitation of the coil is stopped when the leaf spring is almost free of tension.
