The safety plug and socket for electrical equipment, designed to be child proof, has a socket with a cup shaped base (24) with a recess around the inside near the top, containing an insert (26) which is also cup shaped. This protects the live sockets which receive the pins (20) of the plug (10), and has two elongated holes through which they pass. The insert rotates so as to conceal the two sockets, and incorporates recesses to receive locking lugs (13) projecting from the bottom of the plug (10). Rotation of the insert is controlled by a return spring, and the locking action of the plug ia assisted by curved leaf spring segments retained around the inside of the base. The insert is shaped to interlock with the plug.
