The TEM microwave mode is used to determine the dampness of sheet material used in the textile industry. The strip line (1) consists of a conductor (2) on a dielectric layer (6) which has a fully metallized back surface (5). The top surface is covered by a resin layer (10). The dimensions ensures the generation of a pure TEM wave. Input and output coaxial conductors (7, 7a) are joined by slub lines (4, 4a) to the strip line. The material moves over the assembly and the microwave E-field is attenuated by the material dampness.
