On the inner wall of the steel container (1) to be renovated, an inner container is produced from a first layer (2) - a carrier layer, a core layer (3) and a second layer, which forms a covering layer (4). Said inner container can absorb all loadings acting on the container. By the core layer (3) being formed from a plastic fibre material which includes a foam material and is impregnated with synthetic resin, a wall thickness satisfying strength requirements is obtained with low expenditure in terms of materials and time.
