The double-acting slipring-type seal comprises a ring fixed to and rotating with a shaft and a slipring sliding axially but not turning in a housing enclosing and clear of the shaft. Its surface is thrust against that of the shaft ring both by the medium to be sealed off and the pressure of the barrier fluid. The housing has a face against which an elastic seal for the gap between it and the slipring in the radial direction is thrust axially and the slipring has a stop opposite this housing face. The elastic seal is thrust axially by the resultant of the pressure difference between the barrier fluid and the medium to be sealed off against the stop on the slipring and in the direction of the shaft ring.
