Amino-transferase producing strain pseudomonas PO 7111 - for prodn of aspartic acid from fumaric acid

A strain PO 7111 of the genus Pseudomonacea (I) is cultured aerobically in a nutrient medium contg molassis and a P- and N-source. The strain produces an amino-transferase in situ, able to convert fumaric acid to L-aspartic acid. After growth of (I) is optimum, culturing is ended and fumaric acid is added at 10%. Conversion takes place anaerobically at pref. pH of 9.0-9.5 and at pref. 57-60 degrees C. The L-aspartic acid formed is then isolated in known ways. The process produces L-aspartic acid in good yield and of high purity.
