摘要
Diptera and lepidoptera are killed by contacting with citral vapour in a concentration of ca 1-20 ppm in the air. The growth of flies is inhibited by contacting their eggs or larvae with a growth-inhibiting amount of citral (citral being added to their growth medium in a conc. of ca 0.4%). Egg-laying by adult female flies is inhibited by contacting the flies with an effective amount of citral (citral being added in an amount of up to ca 0.2% to the medium which causes the response to egg-laying). The intake of food by moth larvae is inhibited by contacting the larvae with 0.03-0.1 ul citral/larva. Mosquito larvae are killed by adding a lethal amount of citral to the water in which they live. Phytopathogenic nematodes are killed by contacting them with ca 0.02% citral in the surrounding soil. Agents for the above contain citral, opt. together with usual carrier matls. or diluents. Citral (a known cpd. used in perfumery and as an intermediate for vitamin A) has been found to have pesticidal props. It has a toxic, repellant or inhibitory effect on insects of the orders Diptera and Lepidoptera and against nematode worms.
