Semi-solid unsaturated polyester compsn. - with calcium sulphate hemihydrate as thickener and sodium silicate

Semi-solid polymerisable compsn. contains the unpolymerised reaction prod. from (a) 1 pt. wt. polyester cating resin; (b) 0.1-2 pts. aq. Na silicate contg. 45-85 wt.% water and with ratio SiO2:Na2O of 1.5-3.75; and (c) 0.1-2 pts. wt. CaSO4.1/2H2O; the amt. of CaSO4.1/2H2O is such that is not 85 (100) wt.% of the uncombined water in the other components is combined. The compsn. is used esp. to produce profiled building components, vehicle parts, furniture, piping, boats, electrical housings and printed circuits. The rate of thickening and the final consistency can be controlled. The compsn. thickens rapidly to a semi-solid state and retains this state for a long time.
