Vulcanising rubber shoe sole onto carded leather upper - using the same movable last for both carding and vulcanising

Two such lasts are used, each in turn being at the carding posn. while the other is at the vulcanising station; they move along guides from one posn. to the other; at the carding station the upper is electrically pre-heated to a safe temp. the necessary heating being completed in the vulcanising press. The pre-heater is switched off when no last is at the carding station. The pre-heater pref. works on 24 volts. The accuracy with which the limit of the region vulcanised can be aligned with the limit of the region carded is increased.
