A renewable brush consists of a bundle of long filaments which are held in a sleeve. The tuft at the end of the brush can be renewed as required by cutting off the soiled length of filaments and then cutting back the sleeve to expose a new length of filaments which can spread out to form the tuft (4). The reserve of sleved filaments may be put in a holder and extruded as needed, or the sleeve itself may be made rigid enough to serve as a brush handle. The filaments may be made of textile or metallic material, and the sleeve may be coiled round a former (2). The sleeve may be pulled out by two rollers (7, 8).
