Polyester of compensated shrinkage contg. polyvinyl acetate - adheres to poly:methyl methacrylate! to form laminated sheet

A layered material is composed of a sheet of polymethyl methacrylate, to at least one face of which is adhered a polyester compsn. contg. reinforcing fibre and/or filler. The polyester has its shrinkage compensated and contains polyvinyl acetate, pref. up to 10 wt.%. The polyester pref. contains 67 wt.% polyester resin, 27% styrene and 6% polyvinyl acetate, and a small quantity of benzoyl peroxide as catalyst and dimethylaniline as accelerator. The fibre reinforcement is pref. glass, present to the extent of 0-30 wt.% on the polyester, and the filler is pref. CaSO4, present at 19-25 wt.%. The material is used for moulded articles, partic. baths, wash-basins and sinks. No solvent treatment of the acrylic surface is required before the polyester compsn. is applied to it. The polyvinyl acetate in the polyester improves the adherence. The material has good mechanical properties such as strength, resistance to shock, to bending, and to temp. The material is thus guarded against delamination.
