A hopper has a base(1) and parallel vertical sides(2). The ends of a chain(6) are connected to a solid bar(4). The bar has stops provided by shoulders(11, 12) between which a support(7) moves on sliders(8). The support has lugs between which cranked scrapers(15) are pivoted at (16). When the chain is drawn in direction (G) the support engages shoulder(11) and the scrapers perform a working stroke. When pulled in the opposite direction the shoulder (12) moves into a recess in the support and the scraper can pivot inwardly to the bar(4).
