Gear selection indicator for large range gearbox - with selector shaft profile monitored by sensor coupled to stepping switch and rotational settings monitored by sensor on cam profiles

The gear selector indicator for the multi-range transmission has a stepped profile on the gear selector shaft with the separate sections of the profile monitored by a sensing arm coupled to a stepping switch. Rotational settings of the shaft are monitored by a second sensor on cam profiles around the shaft. The system provides a rapid and accurate indication of the set gear, especially in vehicles in which the gate is extended over several ranges, and in which the driver has no 'feel' of the correct setting.
