Public works vehicle rotary tower drive - includes toothed ring with segments flanged for securing screws and recesses for keys

The large toothed ring for a rotary tower on a public works vehicle is made up of separate toothed segments (6) bolted to a square section ring (2) forming the outer race for a roller bearing. The axes of the rollers can be at 45 deg. to the axis of rotating of the whole ring. Each toothed segment is flanged each side of the teeth, and securing screws (9) pass through the flanges (7) into the outer race (2). The outer race can be offset from the inner race to prevent rubbing of rotating parts. The ends of the flanged parts each incorporate a recess (11) for a key (12) which also fits into a recess in the outer race. The key is secured by one central screw (13).
