A ship, modified for the recovery of oil slicks from the surface of the seal, is fitted with a collecting system consisting of an inclined plane, the lower part of which is at the bow and below the water-line, while the upper end leads to a compartment where oil and water are sepd. The inclined plane is fitted with two wings and a chain of floats which gather the oil towards it. The sepn. chamber has outlets at the bottom which are permanently open. The arrangement allows an oil slick to be recovered from the surface of the sea in rough weather and provides for the sepn. and return of water and for the storage of oil.
