Emergency drive for passenger lift - has switches inside lift to release main brake and start emergency motor

An emergency drive for a lift can be brought into effect from inside the lift in the event of the lift being trapped between floors as a result of the failure of the main electricity supply. The emergency drive consists of an electric motor (11) driving a clutch (10) which engages a shaft driving a worm (3) which in turn drives the hoisting drum (1) of the lift. Switches inside the lift are operated in sequence so that the mains switch is opened, the lift brake is released and the emergency motor (11) is started.
