Turbine disc with axial flow blades - has welded shroud ring with blade roots welded into radial holes in periphery of disc

A disc (1) has several cylindrical holes (6) drilled into it radially from its periphery. Each turbine blade (2) has a cylindrical stem (5) projecting from its base. The stem is inserted in one of the holes. An axial hole (11) runs into the base of each radial hole (6) in the disc. This permits entry of flux and weld metal and enables the stem to be welded to the disc. The top of the blade has a recess (7) which matches a projection (10) on a circular shroud ring (4). The shroud ring is placed roud all the blades and welded to them after it is in position.
