Process for casting electroslag melted metal ingot in which a slag pool is formed in a cooled casting mould and the slag pool is heated with a non-consumable electrode. A liquid layer of slag is produced and liquid molten metal is fed to the casting mould through the layer of the slag. In this step, the liquid molten metal is intermittently cast in the casting mould. Process is used for producing a metal billet as raw material for making an electroc motor rotor.
