The device is for cross-cutting felled trees, using an elongated sawing arm. A wedge (6) follows the saw arm (4) in its width. This is checked after entry into the sawcut, to preserve the width. The saw continues to cut through the trunk (2) and it and the wedge members are then led back to the start position. Both may be on swivelling mountings on the same shaft or on parallel shafts. This prevents fissures or splitting of the wood.
