The covering for the drive drum of a belt conveyor is made from elastic material such as rubber or plastics. The first end of the covering in the direction of rotation (14) of the drive drum (1) is attached to a rail using rivets. The rail is attached to the drive drum by screws and is recessed into the covering consisting of spring steel. The rail is located about 20mm in front of the end of the covering, and the covering may be multi-layered, in which case the centrally positioned layers are reinforced by fabric inserts.
