Inertial safety switch with spark proof enclosure - is opened by horizontal shock displacing sprung ball holding bridge

The inertial switch is operated by physical shock and housed within a spark proof enclosure for use in ships, aircraft and motor vehicles. The switch consists of two suitable weight copper conductors which enter the switch casing as two electrodes. These are normally shorted together by a bridge carried by a rod and held in this position by a spring. A second rod in line with the first is held by a spring against a ball holding the bridge in position. A horizontal shock displaces the ball allowing the first spring to open the switch.
