The telescopically adjustable rail can be locked at any desired extension. A rail module has two tubular elements which slide axially one inside the other, the outer element also including a perpendicular spigot which enters a socket formed by a post. The elements may be of hollow square sections with the walls of the inner element having externally concave dished profiles, and locking may be effected by cotter pinning. The inner element has cotter pin holes at regular longitudinal intervals, the counter holes being provided at each end of the outer element. Cotter pinning may also be utilised on spigot and socket joints, and the combined rail may have a kerb flange for utilisation as a toe board.
