In a printing works, the dead time between successive tasks at the same work station is reduced by a control installation. This coordinates successive tasks so that end of one operation coincides with start of another. A date and time clock (2) has a support plate (3) which slides vertically and on which identification cards (5, 6, 7) are superimposed such that edge (8) of one card (7) butts against a step (4). Perforations (11) corresponding to time units are located on each card. As the plate is slid into clock a switch initiates a marking process to indicate the precise time for start and termination of operations.
