A machine for dispensing constant lengths of adhesive tape cut from a continuous roll of tape involves use of a driven roller of high surface adhesion (i.e. of rubber) to transfer the tape to a nip between a carrier roll having a porous elastic sleeve and an adjacent roll carrying one or more radial knives. The cut is supported by a radially enlarged firm pad on the carrier roll. The peripheral speeds of the nip rolls are matched. The pad transfers the leading edge of successive lengths of tape to a passing support. Used for applying adhesive-coated bands or labels to uncoated containers, e.g. bottles. Can handle adhesive-coated, non-rigid tapes without jamming.
