The pedestrian barrier may be used to define the footway on busy highways, incorporating two rail (4a) panels (4) which are bolted to ground anchored posts (2). The bolted connections are made between the rails and the posts and can accommodate plan angles or panel gradients. A partic. connection may use right angled welded 'V' section post brackets (6) to form seats for square hollow section rails (4a) which are fixed with a section diagonal vertical, bolts through bracket and rail holes (11, 12) engaging nuts (12a) which are welded inside the rails. Alternatively, uniformly wide button holed horizontal plate brackets may enter a diametric slot in a hemispherical projection of a rail end plug.
