Seismic prospecting vibrator control system - maintains coupling plate in contact with ground by varying amplitude according to contact pressure

A device maintains the coupling between the earth (14) and the coupling plate (18) of a seismic vibrator. It is used in seismic prospecting operations and the coupling is maintained continuously throughout operation of the vibrator over a wide range of frequencies, surface conditions, etc. using a simple construction. The plate is coupled to the earth's surface and vibrated and the pressure of the earth on the plate is determined. The amplitudes of the coupling plate vibrations are reduced when the pressure approaches zero or falls below a defined value.
