Weighing machine using dual guided cantilever beams - has two strain elements and compensates for loading torsion arising from non-axial effects
Weighing machine using dual guided cantilever beams - has two strain elements and compensates for loading torsion arising from non-axial effects
Using only two strain elements, and incorporating compensation for non-axial loading the instrument permits accurate and repeatable measurements. Two dual guided cantilever beams (2) fixed at end zones (2a, 2d) in diagonal opposition carry resistance strain gauges (J1, J2, J3, J4). This cantilever arrangement provides large insensitivity to couples about two horizontal axes. The platform (11) lies a shock-absorbend foam mat (10) and transmits a purely vertical loading onto rectangular arms (4) via four rubber pads (7). Loads transmitted to the machined beams (2) set up a collapsing stress and strain in the gauges. Butss (2c, 2b) limit the movement of the limbs. The weight measurement appears as a calibrated signal from a conventional a.c. or d.c. bridge in which the gauge resistances together with temperature compensating dummies form the arms.
