The carburettor is for a multi-cylinder in line engine. It has two parallel passageways (A, B). The flow of fuel and air through these passageways is controlled by butter fly valves (3, 4). The jet of air and fuel from the passageway (A) impinges on the walls (1) of the inlet manifold (2) at the throttle opening increases, and leads to unequal distribution of fuel to the cylinders. This is prevented by a hinged flap (5) in the inlet manifold connected by a link (10) to the butterfly valve. As the valve is opened, the flap (5) swings inwards deflecting the fuel and air mixture from the passageway (A) towards the centerline of the manifold (2).
