The defoliating machine is for maize cobs or similar items and has a defoliation chamber with rollers touching each other. The chamber is supplied with cobs to be stripped by a conveyor. An archimedean screw discharges the leaves and rubbish, together with a conveyor for the stripped cobs. Each roller (10) has one or more raised lengthwise surfaces (24) whose generatrix is parallel to the roller axis, and which bears against the adjacent roler, together with one or more lower surfaces (25) offset from it and joined to it by a shoulder (26).
