A coupling for abutting ends of pipelines of similar diameter comprises a coupling body welded to one of the pipelins. The coupling body has an end wall at which the one pipeline is welded, with an aperture through the end wall. The one pipeline extends partially into the aperture, and the end of the other pipeline extends into the aperture. A chamber between the wall of the coupling body and the other pipeline contains abutting dealing members between the coupling body and the second pipeline, the sealing members being adjacent to the end wall of the coupling body. A metal ring bears against the outermost sealing member, and a gripping member having a serrated surface bears against the second pipeline, one end of the gripping member bearing against the memtal ring. The gripping member has an external angular surface. A compression member having an inner angular surface bears against the outer angular surface of the gripping member and has one end bearing against the metal ring. A plate is welded to the end of the coupling body opposite the end wall and in sealing engagement with the second pipeline. Threaded members is threaded engagement with the plate can force the compression member against the gripping member and against the metal ring. The coupling is esp. useful in repairing pipelines adjacent to drilling platform legs or in caissons.
