IC engine electronic ignition control - has reference signal generator operating periodically in response to two crankshaft revolutions and has markers for operating cylinders
The control is intended for multi-cylinder, four-stroke engines with cylinders, in V, or in line. The movement of the crankshaft is represented as an electric output signal with a train of rectangular pulses, who duration and sequence is an analogue to the angular width and sequence of the engine rotary angle sections of the crankshaft rotation. These sections are marked on a generator disc, coupled to the crankshaft by permanent magnets, protrusions, notches, etc. which trip a trigger pulse in logic connection to the front or rear flank of section pulses to be generated, whenever they pass a stationary generator part. The marking elements are arranged in two groups, a reference signal generator transmits a reference signal after two directly following crankshaft revolutions, and thus indicates the crankshaft position in which a selected engine piston has assumed a reference position. After appearance of the reference signal, a recognition circuit responds first to one group of marking elements only. A counter receives the trigger and/or the rectangular output pulses and controls a recognition circuit for response to the marking elements of the second group.
