The mill has the fuel to be ground passing between crushing rollers and seats (1, 2, 3) and then carried along by an air flow which passes from the rollers to an outlet (5). Baffles (21, 20) are provided by which the maximum cross-sectional area of the passage to the outlet can be varied. Deflectors (10, 10a, b) may be provided to return ground material which is not carried beyond the maximum-area passage. The maximum passage area may be varied by raising and lowering (21) a centre core (20). The return passage may be formed by a walled deflector passage (10) above the fixed crusher ring (2).
