The crude cement flour flows through three preheater cyclones; a calcining chamber (I); another cyclone; and then through a rotary drum furnace, which is followed by a clinker cooler. Exhaust gases leaving the drum furnace carry the flour into chamber (I) via a duct (II) which is at the same height as a tangential air inlet (III) via which air preheated in the clinker cooler flows into chamber (I). The length and cross-section of duct (II) and pipe (III) are chosen so the loss of pressure by the gas entering chamber (I) is equal to or slightly more than the loss of air pressure in pipe (III), which is pref. fitted with a valve controlling air flow. The air preheated in the cooler is distributed between the drum furnace and chamber (I).
