Spigot and socket joint for thin walled aluminium pipes - uses socket bore and spigot barrel groove to form annular volume for injected polymerisable liq. resin

The process is used to make a sealed structural joint between co-axial thin walled aluminium pipes (1, 2) or similar, e.g. in sprinkler irrigation feeds. The joint is of the spigot (1) and socket (2) type with the overlapping end zones each incorporating a single circumferential groove (3, 4). The grooves are of an approximately half round section. The socket (4) and spigot (3) grooves presenting convex surfaces to the exterior and the interior respectively. Once aligned the grooves form an enclosed annular vol. (5) which is filled with a polymerisable liquid resin (7).
