Machine to knot thread around neck of sausage skin etc. - employs simple, robust mechanism synchronising power cylinders and rotary gears

The machine comprises an axially displaceable tube into which the neck to be tied is inserted. The tube carries a blade on the external dia. of its leading end to cut thread as the tube is advanced at the start of each cycle. A spring loaded clamp grips the new end of thread and swings it through two revolutions coaxially around the tube. Automatically synchronised with this rotation of the thread clamp, reciprocating pushers and pivoted guide fingers are actuated to loop the thread into a sliding knot configuration around the tube. The tube is withdrawn as the knot is pulled tight to lock around the neck of the sausage skin. The thread clamp is pref. attached to the exterior of a cylindrical sleeve which is coaxially rotatable on the tube. The sleeve is pref. rotated by a gear train which also drives a camshaft to operated electric or pneumatic switches which synchronise the other motions of the mechanism. Used to tie a self-locking knot around the neck of a tubular sausage skin, sachet, etc.
