The device is for reducing standing waves in a waveguide (10) by altering the waveguide impedance and is located between used and unused portions of the waveguide and comprises a steel plate (20) arranged at right angles to the waveguide axis with the plate edge regions bent towards the used portion and being slotted (14) in a comblike manner. The edges all end in a common plane. The slot of the plate is soldered to a drive plate (18) which extends across the waveguide width and has lugs which sit in longitudinal slots (26) in opposite walls of the waveguide to enable the steel plate to be slid along the waveguide. A simple lever (30) extends through slots in the waveguide top and drive plate and is pivoted by a cross member (32) resting in guides (34) to enable the steel plate to be slid along the waveguide.
