The shelving unit is delivered in an already assembled form and can be transported easily by means of folding uprights. The shelving unit has rigid horizontal (2) shelves which are joined together by rigid, folding uprights. The uprights are hinged to the horizontals by parallel horizontal axes (5). The uprights and horizontal pieces form a deformable parallelogram. The horizontals have flat surfaces for the hinge mountings.
