The switch is designed so that when its thermal fuse is inserted the switching mechanism is forced to adopt its 'off' position. The fuse is inserted by removing a cap. When the operating element (8) adopts its 'off' position a post (23) on this element moves away from the path travelled by a projection (24) on the insulating cap (10) during the cap's rotation and translation. When the operating element adopts its 'on' position the post projects into this path of travel and either prevents the cap moving out of its locked position if the fuse (9) is already present in the switch or is moved by the projection in the direction of the 'off' position when the cap is moved translationally in order to insert a fuse if one is not already present.
