Ignition circuit for high pressure arc discharge lamp - has voltage doubler and oscillating inverter with transformer fed by pulse with capacitor and diode in secondary circuit
The ignition circuit is for a high pressure arc discharge lamp, where the ignition voltage is doubled. It is designed as a compact unit which can be incorporated in the base of the lamp. The supply is fed via suppressor coils (14, 15) to a full wave rectifier (11) and a filtering capacitor (17). The oscillating inverter circuit consists of a transformer (36) supplied by a pulse, so that the output of the secondary (37, 38) is doubled. The output of the voltage doubler is in series with the capacitor (43) and a diode (26). The initial ionisation of the gas is caused by the ignition direct voltage.
