Apparatus for lifting rail and switch points when levelling railway lines comprises a jack-support plate (1) and a lifting device (12, 13) which is operated by a jack (7). The lifting device comprises two substantially U- shaped claws (12, 13) each having a lower arm (14, 15) and an upper arm (16, 17). Each claw is mounted for free rotation on a respective axle journal (11). The journals are mutually coaxial and have centre lines which pass through the centre line (A) of the jack at right angles to said line (A). The journals are mounted on a holder (10) on the jack and the outer end part of the piston (6) of said jack is movably mounted in the jack-support plate. IMAGE
