A patterned weft knitted tubular or fashioned fabric or garment is made with a terry loop pile on a circular knitting machine in which the terry bits are supported and actuated from inside the locus of the needles, i.e. inside the cylinders of a double cylinder machine. The pile height can be controlled by adjusting the position of the terry bits relative to the needles by cam means external to the needle locus, acting through a linkage. IMAGE
