PURPOSE:To improve spread accuracy by a method wherein a rotational speed of a cloth delivery roller and a running speed of a spreader are synchronized, and the spreader body is run as controlling a transfer rate of cloth. CONSTITUTION:A detection device 28 consisting of a transmitting unit 36 having a pair of transmitters 37, 38 opposite each other to interpose a cloth 3 widthwise and a receiving unit 39 having receivers 40, 41 is provided near a cloth delivery port of a frame 21. Outputs of the receivers 40, 41 are impressed on a control input terminal of a prime mover 42 which drives a driving roller 25, and a rotational speed of the driving roller 25 is adjusted according to whether a transfer rate of the cloth is slow as compared with a running speed of a spreader body 2 and thus the cloth 3 is given at a position to interrupt a transmitting output from the transmitter 37, the transfer rate of the cloth 3 is high and hence it is positioned to interrupt a transmitting output from the transmitter 38, or both the speeds are synchronized and the cloth is positioned not to interrupt both transmitting outputs.
