PROPELLING APPARATUS FOR A SEMIISUBMERGED TYPE TWINNFUSELAGE VESSEL

PURPOSE:To increase the load of one of main engines during the low-speed cruising to prevent the degradation of the exhaust gas characteristic by driving the propellers of both fuselages electrically by using one of the main engines during the low-speed cruising. CONSTITUTION:The maine engine 1 of one of the fuselages is connected to propellers 5 through a clutch 2 and connected also to a generator 7 through a clutch 6. Electric motors 9 are connected to the propellers 5 through clutches 8. During the high-speed cruising, the clutches 6 and 8 are released while the clutches 2 are engaged so that the respective propellers 5 are driven directly by the main engines 1. During the low-speed cruising, the clutches 6 and 8 are engaged while the clutches 2 are released and only one of the maine engines 1 is operated so that the propellers 5 are driven by the electric motors 9. Thus the main engine is operated in favorable conditions, since only one maine engine is operated under a high load during the low-speed cruising.
