摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound, useful as an antioxidant, in high yield, by the reaction of the corresponding propionic acid ester and monopentaerythritol in the presence of dipentaerythritol. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound of formula II is obtained by the ester exchange reaction of a propionic acid ester of formula I (R is methyl or ethyl) and monopentaerythritol in the presence of dipentaerythritol of formula III in an amount of 0.1-1wt% of pentaerythritol. The amount of the trisubstituted side product of pentaerythritol can be decreased to =5%, and the high purity objective compound of formula II can be obtained by simple recrystallization.
