PURPOSE:To provide safety and economical sealing for a floating roof type tank, by injecting air with a pressure higher than that of air used for floating the tank roof from the outer periphery of the roof to the inner periphery of the side plate, thus preventing the air for floating the roof from leaking outside. CONSTITUTION:When the tank side plate 1 is erected up to the preset level and the the assembly of the tank roof 2 is over, high pressure air is injected from the injection pipe 5 toward the inner surface 1a of the side plate 1. Then compressed air is also injected below the tank roof 2 to float it. The tank roof 2 is gradually floated with a layer 9 of high pressure air being formed between the outer periphery 2a of the roof 2 and the inner surface 1a of the side plate 1. At this moment, the clearance between the outer periphery 2a and the inner surface 1a is kept almost unchanged. This air sealing system is safe and economical without any danger of fire which could be caused at the time of welding sealing members in a conventional system.
