PURPOSE:To provide the titled compound which has excellent moldability and handling characteristics and in which reinforcing effect of a carbon fiber is great, by a method wherein a plurality of considerably long carbon fibers is made up into a bundle with a binder such as polysulfone or a polyphenylene sulfide polymer. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of carbon fibers having a length of 1/4-4inches are made up into a bundle with at least one binder selected from a polysulfone and a polyphenylene sulfide polymer to obtain the titled compound. One concrete method of making up the carbon fibers into a bundle is as follows: A continuous strand of the carbon fibers which are made up into a bundle, is immersed in a molten liquid of the polyphenylene sulfide which is previously molten by heating it to 300 deg.C or higher. The bundle of the carbon fiber is cut in a predetermined length. Alternatively, the bundle of the carbon fiber is immersed in a solution contg. the polysulfone dissolved therein or dispersed therein, then dried and cut in lengths.
